May Favorites

Friday, May 29, 2015

This cannot already be my fifth favorites post of the year.

But apparently it is. So let's get right to it.....

Beauty:

On a recent Target trip I decided to pick up this palette in Golden Horizons. I'm a total sucker for a good palette, and so far this one hasn't disappointed me. I think once you get to a point it's hard to find colors that you don't already have, but the thing is, no two palette/ duo/ etc. colors are the same. They have their own little formula and I'm really liking this one. The colors are pretty pigmented and  you can get so many different looks.

This mascara is to die. It's pretty cool when you're gifted products that quickly become some of your must-haves like this one has. When I first started using it I thought I'd be using it more for when I wanted some added drama to my lashes but still gravitate to my other mascara for everyday, buuuut I'm finding that's changing. This stuff is that good.

This buttery lipstick in the color Pops is also a result of that Target trip. It's a little darker than nude, but it's not bright either. I love bright lipsticks but wanted something a bit more neutral for those hot summer days that are coming. I find the formula really nice and it seems to be long-lasting, which is a must for me.

Misc:

The Signature Soy line of candles {from Target} are so lovely that I've added two to my collection. Sugar Blossom smells like sugar, obviously, and then Sweet Spun Sugar reminds me of cotton candy at a carnival and both of them smell soooo good.

Sarah Dessen's newest book came out this month and I've been obsessed. I plan on writing a whole post on it, so I can't give too much away, but I will say that it's a bit heavier than most of her other books, but in a good way. I'm getting close to the end and I know it's inevitable but I don't want it to be over.

As far as music goes, I've totally been feelin Want to Want Me. I'm not really a Jason Derulo fan, but this song is so perfectly catchy and fun. Halsey's EP is amaaazing and I cannot wait until her full-length album is released!

Got any goodies to recommend? Spill it all!

Why Girls Wear Makeup

Thursday, May 28, 2015

In recent years it seems there's been a debate going on that is tiring and insulting.

Why do girls wear makeup? Do they look better with or without it? Are girls lying to guys by wearing it?

Then there's the common belief that girls who wear makeup are insecure. While this is sometimes true, {Even I still have a hard time going completely bare-faced} it's kind of  narrow-minded to just assume it, in my opinion.

Makeup is not some "new" thing that was just invented in the 20th century. No, it's been around since the days of the Stone Age and Cleopatra. Women have been using some form of makeup almost since the beginning, and it had a lot of different uses then, as it does now.

Unfortunately in the last couple of years especially, I've seen various internet articles/ videos/ and the like with headlines reading "trends guys hate," among other unflattering titles. But here's a novel idea.

What if women don't wear makeup for guys?

There's a post somewhere on tumblr that says something to the effect of "if girls wore makeup for guys, there wouldn't be hundreds of girls on youtube giving tutorials," and I've never seen anything more true on this topic.

There are literally thousands of blog posts and videos on tutorials and reviews and just about anything else you could think of when it comes to beauty. Nobody is going to put effort into making those things if they're not genuinely interested in them.

While I'll admit it's true that I'm working on insecurities, my face routine has nothing to do with them. I wear makeup because I like a perfectly winged eye and pretty shadows and a good red lip. I enjoy testing out new products. If anything, makeup helps me feel more confident. I don't see how that could ever be a bad thing. You just have to find a balance and not get too caught up in the beauty industry and begin to equate your identity with makeup.

It's not fair to put girls in a box and say they all do this for that reason. Some of us wear lots of makeup on the daily while some tend to stay more understated, and some girls even prefer to wear none at all.

All of that is okay, because each one chose it all on her own, for her.

Halsey and #LovelyLadies

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

I love the idea of celebrating the women you're inspired by, which is why I've always been about the whole Woman Crush Wednesday movement.

But I've been thinking. I don't wanna have to be tied down to one day out of the week to share the awesome girls that have inspired me/ are generally rad in one way or another.

Also the new season of Pretty Little Liars is coming up and I wanted a way to keep up my weekly recaps but still recognize #wcw. So sue me.

So with this, the #LovelyLadies edit/ movement/ whatever you want to call it has been born! Feel free to get in on the action and hashtag away with your own picks......

Halsey is like the ultimate cool girl and lately I've been completely enamored by pretty much everything about her.

Three things I've learned from following her on twitter:

1// She loves her fans.

2// She's a feminist who isn't afraid to speak her mind on feminist issues {As should be the case with us all}

3// She feels Stevie Nicks vibes {Again: As should we all}

Ashley Nicolette Frangipane is like a 1975 song and Lorde all mixed into one pretty lady, and I'm a little bit obsessed.

She hit the (door)

Monday, May 25, 2015

http://withdignityandcoffee.tumblr.com/post/119788325739/guess-who-got-a-concussion-trying-to-get-in-my

It was a typical Texas spring afternoon, the weather seemingly changing every hour. I had just finished a glorious Sunday after-church meal at In-N-Out, and the day was all going according to plan.

That is, until I went to get in the car.

It happened in slow motion, like those overly dramatic moments on One Tree Hill that you couldn't help but be mesmerized by.

The whole scene would've made more sense if I were a bit er, intoxicated- like the time my cousin broke her ankle after tripping in her heels- {If you ever read this Melanie, sorry I outed you} but alas, I was sober as could be, my only buzz the glory of the Double-Double.

It didn't really even hurt at first. I've hit my head on something like, a million times before, so this was nothing. Ooooor so I thought.

One second it was just me opening the door, and then, about halfway through my journey to the seat, the pain. You know how on Vampire Diaries {oh, how I miss when that show was good} when a vampire is transitioning all of their emotions are heightened? That's how it suddenly felt and I told myself it was just a freaky coincidence.

After all, I am an anxiety-filled, emotional creature and this is totally normal right please tell me this is normal.

However, after a quick google search told me this was, in fact, a sign of a concussion, I wanted to cry and laugh at the thought of getting one from a car door.

As suspected, one trip to the ER and some swallowed pride later, that was the diagnosis. At least I wasn't actually becoming a vampire and have to feed in 24 hours or ya know, die.

This one was the mildest of cases, at least, so I can laugh about it. Because what else can ya do?

And hey, it makes for a pretty good blog story.

Coffee cups.

Friday, May 22, 2015

"Her wishes fall into coffee cups like pennies into fountains,
and she's counting all the days she's wasted
waiting and hoping for something more.

Still she pours all she has into those dreams of more,
of laughter and adventure and wonder.
Because even though hope breeds eternal misery
she hopes and she loves and she dreams."

Romps | A love story

Thursday, May 21, 2015

It's a classic love story.

We first saw each other from across the room and I knew.

But, the stars didn't seem to be on our side as I realized my size was nowhere to be found.

I found my heart breaking a tiny bit.

And then- another realization, a better one this time.

They're sure to have it online.

And so, with a virtual swipe of my credit card, things seemed to finally be falling into place, but there was still the hardest part to endure- the waiting.

In a few days' time the wait was over and we were reunited once again and, just like Cinderella's glass slipper, it was a perfect fit.

I have a feeling the two of us are going to live happily ever after.

Let's talk about Anna Kendrick.

Honestly, she's my #wcw every day. She reminds me a lot of the Shakespeare quote,

"Though she be but little, she is fierce."

She's real and honest and seems to be full of a fierceness that you don't often come across.

Oh, and I totally wanna eat pizza and karaoke Taylor Swift with her like, all the time. #goals

Bits + Baubles

{Springtime edits}
{Pink ladies}
Well, it's been a hot sec since I've written one of these posts!

Let's talk business cards.

I've been seriously considering them for the blog for awhile, but it's so overwhelming which path to choose. Do I go with a pre-made template? Design my own? Right now I'm leaning towards doing that and having them printed, but that leaves the daunting task of figuring out how I want to design them.

Ugh.

Do any of you have blog business cards? How did you have them made? Basically, help a sista out!

Stars Go Blue

Friday, May 15, 2015

I've never really been into colored eyeliner, but recently I've kinda been digging blues. I think it gives a touch of effortlessness to a look and it's perfect for a casual spring/ summer day.

Or Memorial Day, or 4th of July, or poolside.......

Pretty much any occasion.

The NYX slim eye pencil in Sapphire has been my go-to, and I like pairing it with just a tad of white shadow and a bright lip, so that the eyes + lips are the pops of focus.

ON MY FACE:
Maybelline Brow Precise pencil in blonde
NYX liner
White shimmer shadow from Maybelline The Nudes palette
Covergirl The Super Sizer mascara in Very Black
Lorac TANtalizer baked bronzer
e.l.f. Studio Blush in Tickled Pink
Maybelline Color Sensational lipstick in Shocking Coral

Now that you have a play by play of the full face situation because I can't just put one product and not ALL, tell me how you rock colored liner!

Woman Crush Wednesday: Karlie Kloss

Karlie Kloss is a #girlboss building an empire.

Not only is she a world-famous supermodel/ former VS angel, she has her own cookie recipe at Momofuku Milk Bar called Karlie's Kookies and is a coding connoisseur.

She's even giving scholarships to girls who want to learn coding, which is pretty rad.

I have a blog and I hardly know the first thing about coding, but Karlie kills it.

On top of all that, she's a part of Taylor Swift's squad.

Yes, please.

Denim days

Tuesday, May 12, 2015

I've always been a bit leery of denim on denim, mostly because I didn't quite know how to wear it without looking like Britney and Justin circa 2001.

But, I think I've found the key.

Just don't be too matchy matchy. I like wearing different washes with each other since it gives it more of a relaxed look.

I've been obsessed with this chambray shirt I found at this shop called L'Patricia. (they don't have a website. Boo.) It's light and relaxed and perfect for days when you want a little extra blue.

Have you ever ventured into the double denim/ chambray look? Spill.
