July favorites

Friday, July 31, 2015

And just like that, we're rounding up the best of the month again. I've discovered some new loves in beauty and a new show.....

I snagged these Candie's sandals because I'd seen ones like them everywhere, but none in my size. Finally! Even though they're not a neutral color, I've found they go with most everything and give an outfit a bit of pop. They're comfy too!

Yet another color has been added to my Essie collection and it's the perfect peach. The formula is a bit opaque but light and it just screams summer.

On a recent Ulta trip I saw this Lorac Gold palette, swatched, and fell in mad love. The colors are very pigmented and slide on your lid like magic. Any time you want a little oomph to your look, pull out this baby. There is a lot of fallout with the shimmer colors, but with a shadow shield like this one (a favorites honorable mention) you're all good.

The blogosphere has been buzzing about a certain mascara, so naturally I had to try it out for myself. It seems like lately I've been more open to trying different ones instead of being set on a "holy grail," but I'm definitely adding Lash Sensational to the list of must haves. It's got a full- fanning brush (which I'm such a fan of) and I notice my lashes seem a bit fuller and... perkier? If that's a thing. I like the smooth formula and I just really love the end result.

On a whim I bought this Anastasia brow pencil as I'm always looking to update my brow routine. I think I'll be sticking with this one. It's so natural looking and goes on so smoothly, it's almost like you've done a powder or wax. But way easier.

Books/ TV/ Apps:

I could talk about To All The Boys I've Loved Before like, all afternoon.

This month I started watching Astronaut Wives Club (I'm all caught up now) and I kind of adore it. It's witty and I think the heart of it is the bond the wives form, which I'm all about. They also show actual footage of the launches and things from that era, and the history nerd in me loves it. And the wardrobe.... what I would do to work on that set!

I've been getting more into Snapchat lately... @kaemichelle if you want to follow me. (So shameless)

That's it for July! Tell me what you've discovered this month. Anything I should know about?

We're getting closer to the season finale aka the Charles reveal and I'm so ready. I'm ready to be done with all the games and all the guessing and confusion. Of course, I'm sure there'll just be new confusion.

Anyway, let's talk about last night.

+ Hanna is having no sympathy for Charles and I don't blame her. I feel like out of all the girls she's the one most over all the crap. She's long finished playing A's games and she makes sure they all know it. I like that.

+ Is it just me or was Aria really sketchy about her prom dress? She was super quick to make sure Emily didn't get a peek of it and the "I want it to be a surprise" excuse seemed a little... off. All I could think about was the whole Black Swan thing....

+ I'm gonna need more Spanna scenes, asap. I love the whole dynamic of Hanna being sarcastic and done with everything and Spencer talking her down.

+ Okay so let's talk about this Rhys (totally weird way to spell Reese, btw) Matthews guy. Why is he a Jason doppelganger? Why is his whole company so sketch? I think he's my biggest question, because it's obvious that he's connected somehow. But how? I don't necessarily think he's Charles, but the chances of him being a DiLaurentis are pretty high.

+ Ms. Montgomery going all Mama Bear on Tanner is everything.

+ After everything, I really do believe Alison is sincere. In a way I don't understand how she could sympathize with Charles, but at the same time that was her brother. He's done unspeakable things, but it was her brother and she never got to know him. So I think she needs to mourn that loss and what could've been.

Alright, so what did you think of this episode? Tell me theories!

Tips on easing flight anxiety

Monday, July 27, 2015

If you're like me with anxiety, flying is probably not a preferred traveling method. Every time I'm on a plane, it seems I'm on edge and can never fully enjoy the flight, no matter how much I want to.

It's almost like that Friends scene where Phoebe calls Rachel to tell her there's something wrong with the left phalange and the guy sitting next to her overhears and freaks out.

"This plane doesn't even have a phalange!"

I'm that guy always.

I'm already feeling uneasy about the impending flight to Florida (I suppose this post is a bit of therapy for myself) and while I haven't figured out the magic secret that doesn't involve some benadryl, I have found a few courses of action to take a chill pill. (Metaphorical this time)

Prepare. Treat the morning/ day of your flight like any other. Go through your routine, get your coffee... don't think of the traveling as some big event.

Music. Music is comforting to me in any situation, particularly music of the Taylor Swift variety. If you're listening to a song or artist that chills you out or is familiar to you, you're more likely to focus on that than the stressful situation. Earphones in, airplane mode on, aaand go.

All the books. If you're not one to get motion sick while reading in a car or plane, be sure a good book is in your carry on. (Or two, depending on your flight length) You'll need something light and fun like Mamrie Hart's book. I've been saving my copy for travel day because it's impossible not to laugh when Mamrie is involved.

Imagine yourself at your final destination. This one seems so simple, but I think it can really help. Picture yourself already there, safe and sound. What do you have planned once you get there? Get lost in it and you'll be landing before you can say "more wine please."

Pray + think good thoughts. Another little thing, but I always say a prayer beforehand and once I'm on the plane. Make positive thoughts float through your mind and stay there. I'll make it through this flight. It's only _____ long. Everybody will be safe. Etc. etc.....

Check your safety. Take mental note of where the oxygen masks and flotation devices are, and it can be helpful to make a quick plan of action just in case.

Acknowledge your feelings. Let the anxiety manifest for a moment, and then breathe. You can distract yourself and focus on coping methods, but don't forget that acknowledging how you feel is important as well.

Do any of you deal with flight anxiety? Tell me how you do it! I'm curious. (And okay, I'm also up for new suggestions)

A half bun hair tutorial

Friday, July 24, 2015

Lately I've been digging a little style I like to call the half bun.

It's easy- like super easy, not too "done," and perfect for us shorter maned gals. (Although it'll work on any length!)

This looks chic on straight or curly hair, but I like mine with some laid-back waves.

So first things first, I curl my hair with a flat iron (I don't even own a curling iron) and then I mess it up. Finger comb, scrunch, whatever it takes to look a little undone.

Next, just gather a section of hair from the top of your head and twist it up into a bun.

Even though your instinct will be to get the bun just perfect, the key again is to make it a little undone. Messy is the new black.

Get some bobby pins in there and voila

See? Told you it was soooo easy. Even a caveman can do it. #throwback

Have you tried the half bun look? Tell me how you get it.

So, last night's episode was all about another "almost exposure" of Charles for the girls. Other than that, not too much went on, but of course I've still got some thoughts:

+ I'm glad we got to see some Mona/ Mike interaction this episode. Honestly I was starting to think they were just gonna ignore their storyline.

+ Oh, so you mean taking microchips out of each other's necks isn't normal friend bonding time?

+ Honestly some of the only real action we got was Toby eating Spencer's gummies. Not that it wasn't worth it.

+ The first few episodes of the season were SO.GOOD. and it's just gone downhill from there. Whyyyy.

Tell me your thoughts!

How to be Confident

Monday, July 20, 2015

If I've learned anything in twenty one years, it's that becoming confident is a process that's never truly over.

You're always growing, always improving. But, I'll let you in on one of the secrets to it all:

Fake it.

That whole fake it til ya make it phrase may be a little overused, but in this case it makes all the difference.

There are always gonna be times when your confidence level is at a -5 and it can be so easy to be like "I'm done."

BUT if you fake like you're the most confident person in the world, I think that eventually some of that can become real.

Be confident in your actions and your words and the way that you hold yourself.
Be confident in your strengths.
Be confident in your soul.

Or at least act like you are. Then you will be.

Hailee Stenfield been on my radar for awhile, but I finally saw Pitch Perfect 2 the other day and now I'm a little bit obsessed.

Girl's talented, has killer style, and is part of Taylor Swift's squad, which must mean she's just as cool as she seems.

She's a breath of fresh air because she's just real. The kind of girl you want in your life to go on coffee dates with and share style tips.

Basically, Hailee rules.

To be honest this was probably one of the more "eh" episodes of the season so far. There weren't many answers given (although when are there ever) and it just seemed a bit anticlimactic for me.

+ However, Mona did pretty much confirm that Charles is indeed alive, but that had already been a theory and I'm beginning to think more and more that Charles is indeed A.

+ If I found out I had a chip in my neck I would freak. Like how insane can you be to chip someone.

+ The whole Emily/ Sara dynamic seems forced somehow, as does a lot of Emily's relationships. I miss Maya.

+ I'm assuming Alison's dad freaked out after he got that card from "Charles" and that's why he dug up his grave?

And that's all I got.... tell me your thoughts!

Bits + Baubles

{Leslie Knope way}

Something about the blogging world slows down in the summertime. Maybe it's the go-go-go feel of the season or that everyone is doing their own thing, but whatever the reason people don't read blogs as much as they do the rest of the year.

At the end of the month I'll be going to Florida and in August it's (hopefully) moving time. I'm still struck with new inspiration, but it hasn't been as easy to get everything put together four to five days a week.

So for the next month or so, I'll be slowing down my posting schedule a bit. I'm thinking Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for new post days.
{Sister dates}
However, if I feel so compelled to post on a Tuesday or Thursday, then I will. Whatever I do, I don't want to force it. Even though I absolutely love blogging, sometimes I feel like I have to get a post out, and I don't think it should ever feel that way, ya know? I need to give myself some leeway.

As the chill, slow dog days of summer approach, so will the vibe around here. But don't worry, I'm not going anywhere.

What do you do when you need some inpso? I'm always up for new ideas.

A touch of Paris

Thursday, July 9, 2015

I originally got the inspiration for this outfit from one of Hanna's looks on the most recent PLL

I took a crop top and skirt and ran with it, and then as I was putting it together, I had a realization that the look had some whimsical Parisian touches to it.

Those can never be ignored.

So, I added a little floral bag that contrasts quite nicely against the stripes of the skirt, some pearl earrings and a red lip for a pop, and voilĂ . Simple and girly, just the thing for a day in Paris. Or ya know, your backyard.

Skirt | Forever 21 (Similar)
Bag | Apt. 9
Travel mug | y & i
Earrings | Unknown
Nails | Essie Pret-a-Surfer
Lips | Rimmel Kate 107 (Still the best)

Blush

I know light pinks are normally a spring thing, but I've been a tad obsessed with blush as of late. Something about it is so whimsical and makes me think of fresh linens and pretty days.

I'm planning on incorporating some blush into my new room as well. (including that LC bedding up there) I love the combination of white + light pinks.

How do you feel about blush?

PS. My About page hadn't been updated in a hot minute so I thought it was time. Check it out if you desire....

Good reads | To all the Boys I've Loved Before

Monday, July 6, 2015

I was a little late to this party, but I've recently discovered the treasure that is To all the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han.

TATBILB follows Lara Jean, who keeps letters she's written to the five boys she's loved tucked away in her mother's old hatbox. Everything is fine until she discovers the letters have been sent..........

This was honestly the first so-good-can't-put-it-down-thinking-about-it-when-you're-not-reading-it book I've read in quite awhile. (Besides Sarah Dessen's latest)

It's humorous and realistic and unpredictable. I was always wondering about what was going to happen next and I fell in love with Lara Jean's character as she is sarcastic and witty and you want to root for her.

It's all just a really good summer read.

Thank goodness there's a sequel that I delved into the moment this one was over! (and so far it's equally as good)

Have you read this one recently? Do you love it too?

How to style white pants

Friday, July 3, 2015

I'm all about white pants. They're timeless, chic, and there are about a million ways to wear them.

However, if I showed you all those million ways, we'd be here until the New Year. So instead I've put together three of my favorite ways to style these babies.

If you're in need of some inspo, here ya go!
 photo prints.png

Pairing pants with a laid-back, feminine print gives a look that's appropriate for a day out or even for work.

A couple of accessories like a necklace that's not too statement can tie it all together, and the shoe possibilities are endless.

 photo collared.png

Quite possibly my favorite of the looks, (I'm a collared shirt freak) this is a perfect mix of preppy and dressy.

The collar does all the work for you; not much else is needed other than a pair of studs or teardrops that give a little pop.

Take it a step further with heels or a cute little wedge.
 photo flannel.png

For the more casual days, you can never go wrong with a plain tee and some flannel.

It gives 90's cool girl vibes and a relaxed feel.

Add a bit of flair with layered necklaces and fun sandals, (or combat boots in autumn) and you're set!

Which of these looks are your favorite? Tell me how you style your white pants!

DETAILS:
Pants | Mossimo
