September Favorites

Wednesday, September 30, 2015

This month had quite a nice array of favorites, ranging from beauty and fashion to a couple of home baubles.

First things first:

{rings}
A couple weeks ago I went and picked up a new brush (one can never have too many of those) from Walmart. I'm probably super late on this but I had no idea Walmart carried Real Techniques.. who knew? Anyway, I grabbed a foundation brush and I've been looooving it. The angle to it makes it so simple for the product to glide on and it just overall gives a nice finished look.

I've probably talked about this Essie polish one too many times already, but it's just that good. I chose In the Lobby via another blogger's recommendation and it's the perfect little autumn nail companion.

Confession: I've never really been the safest when it comes to heat and my hair. I just went along with the flat iron, naive to the breakage around me. As I've been doing my hair lately, I'd noticed some strands looked kind of.... fried. I knew I needed to change, and that's where the TRESemme Thermal Creations heat tamer comes into play. TRESemme is a favorite brand of mine, so I trusted my gut and like always most times, it was right. I feel like the spray actually softens my hair some and I've already seen a difference in the level of fry-age. BONUS: It smells pretty amazing, too.

When you move, I think it's actually impossible to control yourself from impulse buying all the things. Yikes.

A few of my faves?

This autumnal print from the cutest little etsy shop called The Trendy Sparrow

I like the look of succulents and flowers and these precious little flowers from Target caught my eye. The best part of fake plants? No watering required.

I pick up a new candle from the Signature Soy line a little too often. This pumpkin cheesecake one will make you want to eat it. (But please don't)

And this month was the month of fashion week, which is a no-brainer favorite. NYFW is where it's at for me and DFV, Tory Burch, and Jeremy Scott's shows were GORGEOUS. They were all gorgeous, really...

Anyway, that does it for my favorites... now onto October!

Tell me all the things you've been obsessed with.

Finding Your Blogging Voice

Friday, September 25, 2015

It will be two years next month since I started blogging regularly, (times flies when you're having fun) and soon after when I decided I wanted to get "serious" about it. In that time, the blog has gone through a few transitions and it took me awhile to really find my blogging voice. Now I feel like this blog is really "me", but at times I wasn't quite sure what my voice was, and I think sometimes a lot of bloggers feel that way, especially newer ones.

So how can you establish a strong voice while staying real? (I'm starting to hate the term authentic, so we'll go with real)

Think about details of your personality. How can you incorporate it into your online voice? I'm sarcastic and sometimes witty, so most times that carries over to my writing.

Find inspiration. Look at some of your favorite blogs and the voice they've established. What makes them so relatable and readable? Figure out it for you, too.

Write the way you talk in real life. This probably seems like a duh thing, but when I first started blogging I sort of thought I needed to sound "professional," almost as if I was writing a newspaper instead of a blog. For some bloggers the more serious tone might fit their brand more, which is totally fine. But don't lose your personality either- it never hurts to be cas sometimes. (See? We can all be hip with the times)

You won't find a consistent voice right away, but with time it'll become like second nature and you'll woo everyone away with your unbeatable charm. And if not, at least you'll woo yourself.

Fall Essentials (Fashion, Smell Goods & More)

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

{Pumpkin + tray | Hobby Lobby}
I could start this off on a fluffy, cliche, autumn-is-the-very-best note, but I think I've already had my share of fluff about it.

So instead, let's get on to the nitty-gritty must-haves for the season, shall we?
For me, good lipstick can make an outfit, especially in cool weather months. My love for Rimmel Kate 107 is everlasting, and I recently found another Rimmel Kate that isn't quite on the same level, but pretty dang close. The vampy look it gives is so perfectly autumnal.

Darker nails tend to spring up this season as well, so good wine-y tones like this one are essential.

Continuing with the darker shade theme, pretty palettes are what you'll need for all the fall eye looks. What I love about palettes is that there are so many combinations you can get out them and when you mix and match it makes it all the more fun!

I have a bit of a thing for candles, especially seasonal ones. Target's got a range of soy scents that are always so good you could eat... starting with the Pumpkin Cheesecake.

By far one of my favorite things about this season is the fashion, which I could go on about all day. But I've narrowed it down to just a few key pieces that can't go without mentioning:

FlannelFlannel + fall are like two peas in a pod. The varying colors and style of flannels are part of what makes them so wearable. (and oh how they are comfy)

A denim jacket. Denim jackets are back in a big way (did they ever really leave?) and they're perfect for some structured layering.

Boots. Cowboy, riding, booties.... the possibilities are endless when it comes to boot choices.

Scarves. Obviously.

When it's time for a morning, afternoon, mid-day or any time coffee pick-me-up, brew up some of Starbucks' fall blend. (not sponsored I'm just in love) Add some pumpkin spice creamer or cinnamon and it's instant heaven.

And for cozy evenings in? Some tea, netflix, and a comfy cardigan. Add in a playlist like this one and ALL THE CANDLES and you are golden.

SPILL: What are your fall essentials? Tell me what you'd add!

Essie In The Lobby

Monday, September 21, 2015

A couple weeks ago, Mandy included Essie's In the Lobby in her top fall nail picks.

So naturally, I had to run out and get it.

It's a pretty cinnamon color that looks perfectly autumn and the formula isn't streaky (which I'm all about) so putting on coats is easy-peasy. I like doubling up, but this looks just as good with only one coat!

I really like the way the color comes out and it's a lovely shade.

Have you tried In The Lobby? Tell me how you feel!

If you asked me to sum up life with Stevie in a single photo, this would be the one.

A little fuzzy, not super put together, awkward because she's totally not paying attention to me, but still a love fest.

It's been a year since the fireball of weird locked eyes with me in the shelter and in that year I've learned some key important things:

1// Never leave a pup alone with her vices. Destruction will occur and socks will be wet.

2// Prepare to never eat anything in peace ever. See, this is when pups are in their prime. It's determination at its finest. They will find a way to get a piece of that burger that you just ripped from their grasp.

3// You'll soon forget what actual silence sounds like. In its place? Barking. Always the barking.

4// You'll attempt to understand their ways, but you'll never quite get how they can lay in such unnatural positions or why they have a vendetta against innocent bicyclists.

 Oh well.

I guess that's part of the mystery.

Fall Effortlessly Into Fall With Denim

Wednesday, September 16, 2015

One of my favorite parts of the changing seasons is figuring out how to transition certain pieces and style them accordingly.

To me, a crop top is on the verge of essential. It easily transforms a look and can be so versatile, and despite the peeps of bare skin, it doesn't have to be confined to warm weather wearing.

A great way to take a cropped look into fall is with a little bit of denim. Crop tops + jeans are an effortlessly chic duo on their own, but add in a denim jacket and you've got yourself a golden trio.

Plus, you'll totally feel like an updated version of Topanga Lawrence/ Kelly Kapowski/ every other quintessential '90s leading lady.

Dope. (don't worry, I'll never say that again.)

Current inspos

Life these past couple of weeks have been intense. Not in a bad way, there's just a thousand things happening, the main one being finally moving.

Despite the madness, I've still found a few things to give me a fresh dose of inspiration. (Because who doesn't love those?)

1// Pumpkin spice frappuccinos are kind of my thing until it's actually cool enough outside for the actual latte. It makes the waiting less torture, though.

2// Between autumn playlists and fireside scented candles, it's basically a fall dream these days.

3// LC Runway is one of my favorite things from this year's NYFW. I'm obsessed with all the pretty blush and white pieces! {Photo via}

4// My bedroom isn't fully put together yet by any means, but at least my bed is! The clean, crisp look is the one I was going for and I like to think it sets the tone for the rest of the room.

Tell me all the things inspiring you lately!

Guilt and Chanel No. 5

Friday, September 11, 2015

Lorelai Gilmore once proved she was able to tell if her mother had been in a room the moment Lorelai walked in it. When asked how, the answer was simple.

"The room. It smells like guilt and Chanel No. 5."

That same rule of thought applies to knowing if I've just been to Target.

The entire space will smell like guilt, shame, and Starbucks. You might even hear the faint rustling of plastic bags in the distance.

It's me, trying to hide from your judgement.

Don't lie, you know you do the same thing.

And the thoughts are all the same:
"I don't need this. Why am I putting it in my cart?"
"PRETTY"
"What did I come for again?"

Just the facts of life.....

A Little Fall Playlist

Wednesday, September 9, 2015

It's happening. Slowly but surely, autumn is making its descent and I couldn't be happier.

Since the comfiness of autumn is one of my favorite feelings, that comes through in the season's playlist.

Indie and pretty acoustics make for a chill, cozy mood, with the occasional pop/ rock jam thrown in.

And lots of Ed Sheeran, because Ed Sheeran songs are basically fall in musical form.

#LovelyLadies: Rowan Blanchard

Confession: I love Girl Meets World.

Actually, I'm not sure it even counts as a confession since I will profess my love for it to anyone who listens. (I'll do a whole post on it sometime don't worry) But one thing I might love more than the show itself is Rowan Blanchard.

She may be known as Cory & Topanga's daughter, but she is a force all her own who has recently been making headlines for her killer style and more importantly, her educated views on intersectional feminism. All too often the media and people in our own lives portray a picture of feminism that isn't quite feminism at all. It's not what we're supposed to stand for. And Rowan isn't having any of it, as none of us should.

At just thirteen, she is more educated and eloquent than half of the people my age and for that she has all my respect. She's the type of girl you want on your team because much like her character Riley, she sees the good in everything and she's oh so genuine.

I've got a few years on Rowan, but she's the one teaching me every day how to be a little bit better than the day before.

We all need a bit of that in the world.

The One Where I Went To a Blogging Webinar

Friday, September 4, 2015

IG @misskaemichelle
*There would normally be some artsy photo at least halfway relevant to the post, but half my things are stuck in storage and if blogging has taught me anything, it's that sometimes you gotta improv. And lol @ life.

On Wednesday night, I popped on over to Helene's webinar. I'd never actually been to one of these things before, but at least I didn't have to stress over what to wear. Thanks internet.

Anyway, as I took notes (because I'm super studious) and listened to Helene talk about monetizing your blog and knowing its worth, a certain phrase kept popping up:

You are unique.

And that phrase got me thinking about the immense respect I have for fellow bloggers and creatives. Because it's true, we are unique and so are each of our spaces on the Internet.

I'm glad I have a space I'm proud of and that I can share a community with like-minded people. I'll be honest, in the blogosphere it can be easy to get overwhelmed by all the "successful" blogs and pressure yourself to be a certain way or post certain things.

But you are unique. Your blog is unique. And I think it's pretty cool that so many different people from all walks of life have this one thing in common.

PS. Another thing I learned from Helene? As long as you're genuine about it, you should never feel guilty for making money from your blog! You've worked hard enough for it.

Have you ever attended a webinar? What'd ya learn?

Grey chic

If you tell me your style has never once been influenced by a fictional character or a tv show, I think you're a liiiar.

This summer I became obsessed with The Astronaut Wives Club and the style on the show. I've always loved '60s style, and I think the show did a lovely job of showcasing it. Bowed Peter Pan collars and pencil dresses were a focus, so obviously I had to put my own spin on things.

The cut of the dress is perfect for going over a collared shirt and a skinny belt gives it even more of an hourglass shape. This is definitely more of a dressy look, but if you look hard enough, there are plenty of occasions in which it's wearable. Especially with holiday parties this season......

Speaking of Astronaut Wives, why did ABC think they could get away with just making it a miniseries? I didn't realize that in the beginning and I got super invested. You gotta give me three good seasons of a show at least. Give me more in-depth stories of the families in between all the time jumps. Give me something.

Oh well.

So, your turn to spill your top tv style picks. (We all know you got em)

Tell me how you'd wear their looks!
