January Favorites // Fashion, Beauty, &.... Granola

First favorites roundup of the year is a go! There weren't a ton of products I omgfellinlove with, but the few I did are keepers.

Fashion

I've been reaching for the jacket from this post all month. It's a staple piece, especially when the weather never knows what it wants; I can easily throw this baby on to make it all okay.

This Lilly infinity scarf is to die. The print is so fun and instantly adds a sense of "I'm pretending I'm somewhere tropical" to a look.

I got these LC earrings for Christmas and they've been a go-to this month. I'm all about delicate gold jewelry.

Beauty

I hadn't had any experience with the Nip + Fab brand until I bought one of their lotions for my sister. As I was picking out hers, I spotted their De-Stress blend and instantly thought "I think they made this for me." JK. But really I use it after every shower as a moisturizer and kind of let it soak in. And the smell= amazing.

Sometimes I try new mascaras, but I don't love them all; I tend to stick with my favorites. But Borghese's*  State of the Art is perfect for the times you want a little extra va-voom. Sometimes I'll put it on top of my Lash Sensational and the lashes become sky-high and volume city. (can I over use adjectives any more?)

Everything else

Y'all. I don't know why I 'm just discovering Nature Valley's little bits of chocolate goodness but I never wanna go back. They're perfect to throw in your bag- just measure out a serving and go!

As far as TV goes, PLL came back this month, so obviously that's been a favorite, because it's not like I have a choice anymore. #ThanksMarlene The Grey's watch is still going strong as well.... it hurts, but it's good. So, so good.

I've been listening to a lot of good music lately, like Roses, which I play at least three times a day. You know, for good measure. I hate that Bieber makes music good enough for me to include, but it was inevitable. You should just go and love yourself.

Discover anything this month I should add? Tell me what you've been in love with!

*I received the Superiore State of the Art mascara complementary from Borghese, but as always all opinions are my own.

Hey loves! I've got some January faves comin' your way later, but for now let's talk about some new favorite weekend reads:

+ I've been trying to get up earlier on my off days, but sometimes all efforts render useless. Sound familiar? I'll be using these tips asap, thanks.

+ Kallie makes the whole contouring thing so much simpler. After reading this post I picked up the contour palette (naturally) and so far the test drive is going well...

+ Helene is basically the blogging queen, and here she lays out some quick tips on reaching out to businesses and other bloggers, plus she's got a media kit template available. Yes please!

+ I love that Reviews.com reached out to me about their article on the best foundations! They did extensive research (and weeded out any foundations with less than 12 shades- women of color are underrepresented enough) to come up with their picks.

+ I'm pretty sure Lauryn can read minds because I was in dire need when she put this post up on getting in an "office mood". Sometimes I just can't get into a work flow no matter how much I want to and it's so annoying.

+ A friend shared this article on facebook and I thought it was pretty relevant since I'm in the middle of my Grey's watch. (On season seven now.... six's finale tho. INTENSE.) #5 on the list is too real.

Found any can't miss links lately? Lemme know what I should add.

Previously on Pretty Little Liars... The Gloves Are On

{via}

OKAAAY let's get right into the third episode of season six, AKA I've Seen This Before But For Some Reason I Can't Turn It Off:

+ Looks like Sara's creepy level went up to a ten in the first minute of the episode. Is that a record or something?

+ Speaking of Sara.... we were finally reminded of what happened to her "that night": Electrocution. I say reminded because I sure couldn't remember. "Something happened that nobody knows about." Yeah, no kidding. Thanks, handy flashback.

+ We learned that Emily's not sick, she's just broke and donating her eggs. Casual. #youdoyou

+ I hate to say it but I see myself becoming somewhat open to the idea of Spencer & Caleb. But something about it still feels.... off. I think him with anybody other than Hanna will always feel kind of wrong. Sigh.

+ Looks like the dolls are back and next week we have another bin situation. If you saw my snapchat (@kaemichelle) you know my new favorite joke: We should recycle more.... LET'S START WITH ALL THESE STORY LINES!

...... thanks, I'll be here all week.

Knee Deep

It's safe to say denim is a pretty solid part of my wardrobe and finding new ways to wear it is a challenge I'm always up for.

I recently added some knee high socks to the mix, changing things up a bit. I love a good skirt + knee high combo, adding just enough coverage so you don't freeze. (but if it's not Texas extra cold, you can always slip the socks on over some tights)

Throwing on a cardigan and some combat boots gives it a casual feel.

To say I'm digging the whole knee-high trend is a bit of an understatement.....

Mood Board Vol. 5 | Rose Quartz Pantone

{via, via, via, via, via, via, via, via}

Okay, so I know we're in the middle of January, but I'm already totally feeling spring vibes. And the recent color of the year announcement? Not helping.

Serenity is pretty but the one I favor is definitely rose. Blush pink is one of my favorite colors and this is very reminiscent of that. It's feminine and simple and so, so pretty.

Expect this color to be eeeverywhere this spring.

Which do you prefer: rose quartz or serenity?

Previously on Pretty Little Liars... Charlotte's Web

{via}

This week's PLL began the questions of "who killed Charlotte?" (I thought maybe the title meant we would get a peek into Charlotte's world leading up to her murder but...)

Anyway, jumping right into my thousand thoughts:

+ We met Aria's Liam and Hanna's Jordan and while Liam's not bad, I'm not feeling Jordan yet. Like, how blah can you be? And the cute accent can't even make up for it.

+ Speaking of loves, I still don't know what's going on with Caleb & Spencer. Did they have a thing? They look like they had a thing.

+ "No writer is ever in a good place, Aria." TRUTH.

+ WHAT is wrong with Emily? What is she getting treatments for? I thought it would be revealed by the end of the episode but once again I was left with more questions.

+ Last question: Why is Sara Harvey relevant? What's she planning.....

OKAY tell me your thoughts/ opinions/ rants.... go!

Stripes x Leather

Hey hiii.

How was your weekend? Mine was cold, as evidenced by the indoor photos. I originally started this particular session outside and quickly realized I wouldn't last long. I didn't want to admit defeat, but sometimes you just have to make sacrifices.

Like taking outfit photos inside your house instead of the arctic. #bloggerprobs

Anyway, this was Saturday's look and I went for something crisp and cool. I prefer vertical stripes over horizontal as they tend to give me a little length, so the top was a must-have.

Roll up the jacket sleeves for a chic, tough girl feel, put on your boots and go!

The Things You Don't Do

I like to live my life with no regrets, as I'm sure you do.

But as I've gotten older I've realized that sometimes it's just not realistic. Most of us have something we wish we had or hadn't done, and while some things I regret doing, most of my regrets are things I ended up not doing, even though I wanted to.

Anyone else like that?

Senior year of high school my psychology teacher often told us something one of her professors had told her:

You only regret the things in life you don't do.

If you're on the anxiety train with me I'm sure you're rolling your eyes right about now.....

Stay with me.

It doesn't have to be something monumental. Promise. It can be something as simple as changing up your style. Who knows? It might create a domino effect.

In 2016 I want to do more. Chalk it up to the recent celebrity deaths or the fact that my Grey's watch is giving me an existential crisis, (who does Shonda Rhimes think she is) but lately this phrase has been stuck in my head like a Justin Bieber song. (don't pretend you can't relate)

Life is long but it is so, so short. You won't regret what you don't do if you do it, even if you fail

ANYWAY, what are your thoughts on this?

Previously on Pretty Little Liars... Of Late I Think Of Rosewood

FINALLY PLL is back... I've missed doing these little recaps.

The premiere of the second half of season six brought the start of  "five years forward," and with it came changes and five years of an A-free life. Not for long....

+ The girls all come back to Rosewood to essentially lie for Alison, I guess for old time's sake? So much has changed, but it's still the same.

+ I guess Spencer's pill issues have been passed down to Emily. I hate that they killed her dad!

+ It's clear that they're going to make Spencer and Caleb a thing, something so out of character for them both. I'm not on board with it at all.

+ I could've called Charlotte being murdered (right after she's let out of the sanitarium- talk about irony) and from the looks of the previews for next week it looks like we're right back to the whole "she's the killer no he is no she is" plot.

+ Overall it was a good opener to the new chapter; for once it's not as predictable as before.

Now it's your turn! SPILL thoughts/ new theories.

Recent Record Additions 002

It's been a hot few minutes since I let you in on new additions to my record collection, and there's so many good picks it was hard to narrow it down.

But I've got it:

Zella Day- Kicker

The first Zella Day song I ever heard was 1965 (which is on this album) and I was instantly hooked on her voice, which is full of indie vibes.

Favorite tracks:
// High
// 1965
// East of Eden
// Hypnotic
// Mustang Kids
// Sweet Ophelia
// Compass

Adele- 25

At this point I'm pretty much head over heels for this album and for Adele herself. Her long-awaited comeback was definitely worth it.

Favorite tracks:
// Hello
// Send My Love (To Your New Lover)
// When We Were Young
// Remedy
// Water Under the Bridge
// Sweetest Devotion

Ellie Goulding- Delirium

This album is one big dance party. I feel like Ellie just gets me and the fact that there's not a song on this record I don't love at least a little proves that.

Favorite tracks:
// Something In the Way You Move
// Keep on Dancin'
// Around U
// Codes
// Holding On For Life
// Love Me Like You Do
// Don't Panic
// We Can't Move to This
// Army

What about you? Any record recommendations?

Back to B l a c k

There's nothing like a little black monochrome on a winter's day.

It's sleek and adds a hint of sophistication.

What makes it even better? Focusing on another color (I went with blue) for a bit of a stand out. Not too much, but just right.

Four Ways to Detox Your Life This Month

We're almost a week in to the month, and if you haven't given up on your resolutions already, you're about to. I know, the truth hurts.

Sorry.

However, it makes it a million times easier to keep up with your goals if you've got killer inspiration helping you out. (no brainer, Kaeleen)

Read helpful books
For me, old school "self help" books tend to equal textbook level boring. I can't concentrate on what I'm reading because I'm thinking of all the things I'd rather be doing and I don't get anything out of it. (anyone else like this??)

What I do find helpful are books that are more relatable, ones that read more like a blog post than a physics book. I recently picked up The Little Book of Mindfulness, (because I saw the cover and had a moment of "omg was this written for me") filled with quotes and little tips on how to de-clutter your mind and create balance.

You can also try the three book theory and see how much it increases your creativity! I might have to delve into it as well....

Start a new yoga practice
One of the only times I'm completely chill and bright-eyed and bushy tailed is when I'm in the middle of yoga. I like finding different routines and series so I'm never bored.

This can also apply to any workout if yoga isn't your thing. Join a new gym, start a new spin class, whatever your thing is.

Clean out your closet
What's a better new year's detox than getting rid of all the clutter that accumulates throughout the months? I like to have a system of keep, give away, and trash piles and go from there.

Another tip? Think "what would Stacey & Clinton say?" Be brutal with yourself. If it's less than flattering, doesn't fit, or hasn't been worn since '09, kiss it goodbye.

Drink more water
Wanna know a secret? Cleanses do more harm than good. Instead, focus on things that do have benefits, like drinking more water. This one I should have written on my forehead because I'm terrible with remembering water. (If it was coffee we were dealing with I'd be golden)

But it makes for clearer skin and immune system, plus a clearer mind. So drink up.

Anything I missed? Tell me how you like to start over.

Monday Sleek

One of my favorite things about an LBD is the many ways you can make it your own.

Taking it in a bit of a casual but polished direction with a cardigan and red lip, this is a great "I'm pretending to like Mondays" look.

2 0 1 6

Oh hi, hello. It's 2016 Kaeleen, being like every blogger today and talking about the new year. I don't know what it is about it, but new year's (and the holidays in general) turns me into a reflecting, sentimental ball of emotions. It's the same feeling I get listening to songs from back in my mix cd making middle school days. I can't help it.

I am a Cancer, after all.

This time last year seems like a lifetime ago and it seems like it was just last week. Time is funny like that. 2015 was a weird year, (but aren't they all?) and there was both endless dark and endless light. The mirror sees a different person, but she's still the same. Just a little bit wiser and a little bit happier. Still growing.

I'm so used to looking back, regretting, wishing. Now I choose to look ahead, and I wish the same for you. My little catchphrase, if you will, for this year is simple:

Even numbers are my lucky ones, so I'm counting on you '16. Let's go.
