The Importance Of Goal Writing

Monday, January 16, 2017

According to a Harvard Business study, "the 14% [of people] who have goals are 10 times more successful than those without goals. The 3% with written goals are 3 times more successful than the 14% with unwritten goals." Harvard Business is pretty serious stuff, so it's not like you can just shake what they say off. Writing down your goals is pretty important.

Here's why:

1. It gives you something to look back on.
I always like looking back on my goals from the previous month or year & seeing how many of them I actually accomplished. It's like my own little accountability system, which brings me to....

2. It keeps you accountable.
When you write down your goals it makes them more concrete than when they're just in your head. It's a written contract of sorts that makes you feel guilty if you slack off, something to stare in your face. You know, like a really aggressive personal trainer, if you have one of those.

3. It keeps you organized.
Or, at least it gives the illusion of organization! It's one less thing stuck in your mind, & you're less likely to forget things when they're written down. I don't know about you, but when I actually sit down & organize my goals, plans for the week, etc, I feel a sense of accomplishment and like a weight is lifted off my back. It really does help!

Do you write down your goals? What system helps you? Lemme know!
