2017 In Review

I'm currently gorging down a pack of christmas m&ms, admiring my new salt lamp and wondering where in the world this year went.

As quickly as it passed, one of my favorite things about the end of year is looking back & looking ahead to the new year.

At the end of last year I did a post on 16 things I learned, & so I'm continuing the tradition with 17 things, because 2017. Get it? I'm, extremely creative, I know.

1. Pizza & wine is a perfectly acceptable meal.

2. Good friendships change everything.

3. There is no logic when it comes to trump supporters & we should all just stop trying to understand.(i went THERE)

4. Sometimes all you need is the comfort of home.

5. There is no such thing as a straight line when it comes to mental health. Your good days will be overwhelmingly beautiful and the bad days overwhelmingly painful. It's okay.

6. You can't play it safe.

7. You also can't run from who you are.

8. Yes, forgoing that near-daily starbucks really will save you dough, hard as it is.

9. Women are magical. This was definitely not new information for me, but it became increasingly unmistakable with things like the women's march and the celebration of wonderful women like mary tyler moore & carrie fisher. The spark we have in ourselves & each other is undeniable.

10. We will no longer be silenced. 2017 became the year of the silence breakers, & I am forever in awe of the strength of the people, famous or not, who have ever come forward. They can't break you.

11. Vegging out for a day doesn't make you a bad person.

12. I wasted six years of my prime on pretty little liars. go figure.

13. Don't waste your energy on people who don't give you any effort.

14. Walking around target alone is its own form of therapy.

15. You get out what you put in.

16. Just when you thought taylor swift couldn't outdo herself AGAIN....

17. Nobody truly knows what the heck they're doing .We're all just wandering around trying to get it right. Take comfort in that.

Tell me what you learned!

Forever 21 Metallic Dress
{This f21 dress is currently SOLD OUT online :( but I've linked some similar!}

I almost like party dresses more than actual parties. Anyone else? There’s nothing like a good sparkly, fun little number, especially for new year’s.

Last year I felt like the whole glitter thing was a bit overplayed, but this year I'm rolling with it. Why not go all out?

Metallic, shiny & glittery numbers are where it's at! Play it up with a pair of sexy heels or a statement piece like a bag, & VOLIA.

Happy shopping!

Holiday Makeup

Spicing your makeup up a bit is an integral part of the holiday season in my book. It ties a look together & is festive in a subtle way.

I keep my everyday makeup pretty simple, but when it comes to holiday parties/ Christmas Day/ NYE/ general holiday season, I go for a bold red or berry lip (although sometimes I switch it up & use it for an every day look) & I like my eyes sparkly and berry- gold toned.

I use my favorite palette pretty much on a daily basis, & for a holiday look I like to dip into unleashed & unlimited. I also go into my Anastasia World Traveler palette for intense glaze to blend into the outer corners for a pop. (this palette was limited edition- UGH, but if you don't have it you can dig for a shadow with orange-y red hues)

A lot of times I’ll keep a good wing to a special occasion nowadays, & obviously the holidays call for one. My go-to liquid liner is magic!

Easy peasy with a bit of sparkle. Happy holiday-ing!

Boxy Collared Top & Jeans Outfit

I had a fancy outfit post all planned out for this little boxy number, because as soon as I ordered it I imagined beautiful things. But when it came time to actually shoot photos, nothing was working. No matter the angle, if I tied it at the waist, etc etc, I just felt like it looked awful.

This was the only good shot in a sea of many, & it's still not up to my standards.

It got me thinking about how much pressure we put on ourselves, & how much we doubt ourselves.

'you got all that from a bad photoshoot?' you say... hear me out.

The other day I was having a conversation with my sister about a big life thing (v vague, much intrigue) & I was feeling a bit sorry for myself. What if I fail? What if things don't turn out okay? She then promptly (lovingly) put me in my place as only sisters can do, & it helped. It brought me back to earth & I realized how often we do this to ourselves.

How many things would you have done or said or places you'd explored or people you'd met if only you hadn't have doubted yourself?

& for the love of all that is good in the world, how many things could you have enjoyed if you had just said screw it & not put a brick of pressure on your back?

'You are your own worst enemy,' the saying goes, & oh is it true. Why? I wonder. Why do we do it? We see ourselves as our biggest critic, sure, but shouldn't we also see ourselves as our biggest cheerleader? Our biggest support, the one that says yes when everyone around us is saying no.

What I've learned, is that nobody cares the way you think they're going to, except for yourself. You're gonna fail at things, but you move on from it, & so is life. What's the point of comparing ourselves & our stories to everyone we see? Comparison is the thief of joy, & no matter how pretty pinterest can make it look, it's not pretty. It breeds the worst in us, & that's not something worth bringing out.

Breed the best in you.

Something About December.

Under The Christmas Lights

Picture this: I'm laying under the Christmas tree, Christmas music flowing from spotify, as I watch all the pretty lights glimmer & glow. So maybe I got the ideas from grey's anatomy, so what?

If it works, it works.

In the moments of 'what am I doing with my life.' in the moments of self-doubt & anxiousness, uncertainty, this is the perfect time to step back and let it go. There's something about december that makes it all disappear and you want to soak up every last bit of the fuzzy feelings.

Because once january hits, the real world comes back. The tree gets put away and the lights are gone, until the next december. so we soak it all in, make it last.

Because that's really all we can do.

Christmas Sweaters
{TB to last year-- LONG HAIR I NEED YOU. sweater can be found right here}

One of my favorite things about the season is getting FESTIVE, & what better way to do that than with a cute sweater? Ugly christmas sweaters don't have to be ugly. In fact, if you wear them well, (like with a good old sequin skirt) they can be pretty dang chic.

I'm a sucker for a clever graphic sweater, & when you add the holidays in, you get MAGIC.

Beauty Gifts Under $20

Short & sweet today... beauty bits are pretty much a go-to when it comes to gifting, as there are so many things to choose from in a range of prices. There are loads you can do with beauty bits-- make a little gift basket, use as stocking stuffers, etc etc.

All of these I've picked for a range of reasons: one, I've used or am currently using every product on the list, so they've got the WDAC seal of approval. Two: THEY'RE UNDER $20, because budgeting is important, especially when it comes to gifting.

Christmas Decor On A Budget

The first of December. Peppermint mochas can be sniffed out from a mile away and mariah carey festively jamming can be heard from every window.

It's time.

Time to put away all the pumpkin & leaves decor & break out all the Christmas things.

Are you ready?

Decorating for Christmas is one of my absolute favorite things to get to do, but if you're not careful and don't stick to a budget, things can end up getting a little wild and the next thing you know you're crying in the middle of a hobby lobby parking lot. (or so I've heard)

So to save you the heartache, I've rounded up a few of my favorite little bits & pieces from stores 'round the web.

I like my decor to be traditional & simple, but with a little bit of cute and modern thrown in. Lots of gold! (what's new)
