WHY THE DENIM SKIRT MIGHT BE MY FAVORITE PIECE

Friday, September 21, 2018

The denim skirt has been a long standing piece in my wardrobe. I currently have three I rotate between, & they are my ride or dies. They are there for me on the days when I just don’t know what else to wear, the days I need a pick me up, & the days I want to live out my nostalgic 90s dreams.

THE BIRTH CONTROL DEBATE

Wednesday, September 19, 2018

The Birth Control Debate

I've been on birth control on & off since high school. I wasn't diagnosed with PMDD until a few years ago, but even before then every month was a war zone. Mood swings, debilitating pain, the works. Birth control has been and continues to be a lifesaver for me. It lets me live my life (for the most part) without dreading the pain.

Autumn has just barely hit Texas, sure, but we need to talk about the coat.

GETTING OUT OF A TOXIC RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD

Friday, September 14, 2018

Earlier this year I published a piece on loving your body & the fact that it’s not always a thing. I talked a bit about my past eating disorder & how it’s affected me. Toxic relationships with food might be one of the hardest things to get out of, only because it’s ~always there~.

$50 IN CLOTHES MENTOR

Wednesday, September 12, 2018

I went into clothes mentor with a challenge: what could I find with a budget of $50? Four items & $46 later, thank you, I was satisfied. Four things for under fifty bucks is a win in my book, especially when it’s two things at the most on an asos browse. (as much as I love asos, don’t get me wrong)

WHY I'VE STOPPED WEARING JEANS

Monday, September 10, 2018

I used to be a jeans kinda gal. In the summer, of course, I'd stay as far as humanly possible away from them, but otherwise I loved a good jean. They were comfortable and I found wearing them to be a luxury, of sorts. But what happens when you feel you've outgrown them? CAN you outgrow a style? These are the questions I've been pondering since I found myself wearing a jean less & less often, instead favoring dresses and the ~kae staple~ of a denim skirt.

MY LOVE OF THE WIDE LEG PANT

Friday, September 7, 2018

There are many things I can say about many articles of clothing, but lately I’ve laid my affections on that of the wide leg pant.

A SEPTEMBER MOOD BOARD

September Mood Board & Letter From the Editor
{all images via pinterest}
Ah, September. With the beginning of the autumn months brings a sense of change: change in tone counting down to the holiday season, change in weather, change in fashion.  For me I tend to drift towards darker colors in the cooler months, hence the theme of September's mood board.

WHAT MY WEEK LONG SPENDING DIARY LOOKS LIKE

What My Week Long Spending Diary Looks Like

After reading Hannah's post, I was intrigued by the idea of blogging a spending diary. Each month I have a budget spread in my bullet journal, where I'm to keep track of every purchase. & yet, I'll be the first to admit I'm not the greatest at it. Is it the matter of simply getting the information from the receipt to the page, or is it something deeper, my subconscious yelling 'Ignorance is bliss, ignorance is bliss!'

THE CARDIGAN EDIT

Friday, August 31, 2018

The Cardigan Edit

Oh, the cardigan. A forever staple, for layering & for autumn wardrobe in general. Whether reminiscent of Blair Waldorf, a way to ~dress up~ a look, or a casual addition, they’re a necessity.

THE REVIVAL OF THE ROM COM

Wednesday, August 29, 2018

Graphic Tee And Skirt Outfit

It seems that good old romantic comedies have become few & far between nowadays, a fact lost on me until it was pointed out by the internet, and then I realized OMG IT’S TRUE WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE ROM COM.

THREE TIPS FOR SHOPPING POSHMARK (+ SHOP BACK OPEN!)

Tips For Shopping Poshmark

LET ME SAY: I’ve never actually bought anything from poshmark, though I have ~almost~ purchased. But, being a sometimes-seller on the platform has given me a unique sort of insight on how things work & what you should do in order to have a positive buying experience.

HAIR

Friday, August 24, 2018

Coco Chanel said it best: “a woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.” I’ve been through many-a hair cut in my life, beginning with the first time I cut it short, maybe in eighth or ninth grade.

THE TINY SUNGLASSES PHENOMENON

Wednesday, August 22, 2018

Small Sunglasses

Some trends I jump right in right on & some I’m about a thousand years late on, there is no in between. I've admired 90s style sunglasses from afar for a bit, their small round-ish frames starkly contrasting the bug eyed Olsen twin shades of recent years. When you're not used to something, sometimes it takes you awhile to warm up to it, as was the case with me & the tiny sunnies, perhaps the reasoning behind why it's taken me so long to hop on the train.

THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU JUST CAN'T ANYMORE

Monday, August 20, 2018

YES I know this title is ripped from that bold type episode BUT it’s a good title & relevant, as I’ve got another post I was working on but took a break on because I just, couldn’t. I didn’t feel like writing or thinking... sometimes you just ~can’t~ and that’s okay.

Monday, August 13, 2018

DRESS FROM SHEIN

I used to blog about blogging a lot, and then one day I realized that not all my readers are bloggers and so maybe they don't care so much about the latest blogging trend or the instagram algorithm or anything else currently trending in the blogosphere.

THE ONE DRUGSTORE SHEET MASK YOU NEED

The One Drugstore Sheet Mask You Need

I love a good face mask, and after about a hundred curious instagram & blog scrolls through talk about sheet masks, my curiosity got the best of me a few months ago. Up until then my mask routine consisted solely of jar masks, & I was perfectly happy with that. But a part of me wondered if just maybe, something was missing to the routine.

THE BIGGEST THING I'VE LEARNED FROM MY COLLEGE EXPERIENCE

Friday, August 3, 2018

What I've Learned From Unconventional College Experience

If you were to sit me down, iced coffee in front in me and asked me what my college experience has been like, I'd take a long, reflective sigh, a sip of my coffee, and then maybe laugh. The truth is, college has been anything but normal for me. I went to a big university, then left, took a break, came to a community college, graduated, took another break, and then some more classes. I'm beginning to realize I'm not even sure I know what I've done it exactly for, but I know that through all the craziness I wouldn't have had it any other way. It's taught me to be okay with change (well, it's day by day) & that time is never linear.

THE TRUTH ABOUT THERAPY

Wednesday, August 1, 2018

Striped Shirt Dress Forever 21

I've been thinking of a good way to start this post, because I'm sure you're like, 'she's really gonna spend an entire post on therapy? what is this?' & click the big x and never look back, which is totally fine. But I also think talking about therapy is helpful and reading people's experiences on things is what makes the world go round, right?

THREE STEP SPACE BUNS

Monday, July 30, 2018

Easy Space Bun Tutorial

I know I'm about 500 years late on the space buns trend, but better later than never and now I can't get enough. My hair is finally long enough to do a good bun that I haven't been able to do in awhile. (& yet I'm considering chopping... stop me)

BITS & BAUBLES | JULY EDITION

Friday, July 27, 2018

I’ve got a lot of outfits & posts planned out, but it’s been a doozy of a couple weeks on my brain (mental health! LOVE IT) & I haven’t been able to sit & shoot photos/ write what I wanna write. So I’m bringing July in review a little early, & hopefully next post I’ll be back with fresh eyes. And fresh coffee.

ON MY TENDENCY TO WANT TO BE MORE

Friday, July 20, 2018

Last year I wrote a piece on a new show titled The Bold Type, about three women navigating friendships and careers at a New York magazine. Modern day Sex & The City-esque, minus Carrie, I wrote about it filling a hole in television, with its feminist message and feel good humor.

THREE REAL WAYS TO BEAT STRESS

Wednesday, July 18, 2018

Active Ways To Beat Stress

Oftentimes blog posts talking about beating stress will give tips like 'take a bubble bath!' and 'call a friend'! & while those are so helpful for self care and can work wonders for a gal, it's not the only thing you can do when stressed. It's important to look at the stressor itself and figure out how to nip it in the bud, so to speak. (am I the only one who thought it was nip it in the butt and imagined someone kicking you in the hindquarters as a child?)

Forever 21 Floral Shift Dress

Let's call it the midsummer shopping itch. It's most definitely something I just made up as I sit in this coffee shop, but whatever. Go with it, shall we? I've gone a little 'add to cart' happy and obviously I'm sharing it with you because lol I'm horrible and want you to also buy the things. BECAUSE THEY'RE CUTE, OKAY?

WHY I BEG TO DIFFER THAT BLOGGING IS DYING

Wednesday, July 11, 2018

Why I Don't Think Blogging Is Dying

It seems the good ole blogosphere has been split down the middle the past year or so, as there has been an increasing number of so called instagram blogs and less actual blogs. We're a want it now society, anything more than a screenshot to get clothing details emailed seeming like a daunting task. Reading 300+ words? No thank you. So the question causing debates all around: is the art of blogging dying?

A HINT OF ROSE GOLD | TIPS FOR TINTING

Monday, July 9, 2018

Tips For Rose Gold Tint

Experimenting with my hair is the same as experimenting with clothes for me: a creative way of expressing how I'm feeling, the ~aesthetic~, if you will. (yes I do use that word too much, no I won't stop) I've always wanted to try out a fun color, but actually dyeing it lavender or rose gold is a commitment I'm never sure about. My only tousle with pink dye was one summer with my cousins, streaking the fronts hoping to get an Aria Montgomery pre missing Alison look, but just ended up looking like I had a bit too much fun in the dye. We live, we learn.

THINGS TO HAVE CONTROL OVER IN A WORLD OF NO CONTROL

Friday, July 6, 2018

Over the years the realization has hit  that a huge anxiety trigger for me is feeling out of control. We've chatted about this before, but I joke about it a lot because, oooh the irony. What do we really have control over in life? Not the way people perceive us or the change in the weather or why we just got cut off on the freeway.

ON BEING AN AMERICAN IN 2018

Being An American In 2018

I was always taught to be proud of where you're from, and so from the time I was old enough to understand, I had a certain appreciation for America. Sophomore year of high school we dug deep into Ellis Island and the rich history of culture. It wasn't the first time I'd learned about it, of course, but the first time I truly understood. Everyone who docked onto the Island was coming here in search of a better life, the American dream. The textbooks don't always teach the not so pretty side of our history, however, nor the present.

JUNE IN PHOTOS

Friday, June 29, 2018

Hi hi, welcome to a new & improved version of bits & baubles. I've revamped this so many times you probably don't even remember what it started out as. I barely even remember. Anyway, you've seen most of these photos on my insta, but I thought I'd collect them all here.

WHY MILLENNIALS ARE SO OBSESSED WITH NOSTALGIA

Monday, June 25, 2018

It was a hot June afternoon, the sun blazing through the windows of my Jeep and the notes of an old Dashboard Confessional song humming via spotify. A moment worth snapping a mental photo of- complete stillness, bliss, nostalgia. It seems to happen frequently- possibly because I have an entire playlist dedicated to what I’ve dubbed ‘throwback songs’ & often find myself thinking about days past, a sense of longing to follow.

I wasn't going to post at all today, because life happened and I'm sure y'all didn't wanna hear about 'stepping back' and the usual crap us bloggers say when feel the guilt from skipping a day (the guilt is a thing, people) but I've got something important.

WHAT I'VE LEARNED FROM GOING MAKEUP FREE

Friday, June 15, 2018

Going Makeup Free

A few months ago, I made a commitment to give my face a break & go makeup free at least once a week. Of course, this is not including the brows, because the brows must always be done.

I digress.

A LOOK INTO THE COMPLEXITY OF SWIMWEAR SHOPPING

A Look Into The Complexity Of Swimwear Shopping

“Do you think a woman has ever gone swimsuit shopping without wanting to cry?” My friend’s words floated through our group chat and landed with a solid ‘amen.’ If there was ever an activity that evoked such strong emotion, it’s shopping for swimwear.

The Summer Playlist Of Your Dreams

Does this even need an introduction?

THERE IS AN AFTER.

The events of this Tuesday have led me to reading many stories of women acquiring their very first Kate Spade. How something so simple rocked their little world, making them feel empowered, feminine, grown up.

THE DO'S AND DONT'S OF SELF TAN

Wednesday, June 6, 2018

The Dos And Dont't Of Self Tan
Summer Shift Dress

Ah, the self tan. It’s a love/ hate relationship, most of my high school years watching everyone around me tan ~naturally~ so easily, while I was out getting burnt to a good crisp after approximately two hours of sun. So unfair, I’d think, and so I’d turn to my new BFF, the ‘fake n bake’ as it was affectionately called. But you see, the relationship didn’t really work it. It was messy, streaky, and a certain shade of orange I had previously only seen on Ross Geller when he counted in Mississippi’s during a spray tan.
