HAIR

Friday, August 24, 2018

Coco Chanel said it best: “a woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.” I’ve been through many-a hair cut in my life, beginning with the first time I cut it short, maybe in eighth or ninth grade.

Since then, I’ve gone through attachment phases of sorts with my strands. There are times when all I want is the security of my long hair, the excuse for ponytails maybe hiding something deeper. And then there are the times when I feel the need for some sort of control in my life, usually beginning with shears, & suddenly I understand why 2007 Britney took matters into her own hands. I think for many women, hair is more than ~just hair.~ (as evident in Chloe's post on hair & femininity

I know in my case it is. It’s an expression of freedom, playfulness & identity, the need to document the minor changes evident in photos. (& this post?) Maybe it’s not a healthy thing to put identity in hair, but then it’s so much more than that, isn’t it? (isn't it isn't it isn't it... ok yes I threw in a taylor swift reference did you really think I'd do otherwise)

xo,
kae
