GETTING POLITICAL: WHEN IS THE RIGHT TIME? IS THERE ONE? (+ MY NEW FAVORITE SKIRT)

A New Day Leopard Tulle Skirt Outfit

In the recent months (read, years) it seems Facebook has been less meme sharing & more political arguing that has made many abandon the social media platform altogether. In a climate with rising tensions & head-scratching positions, the question 'when is the right time to get political' is on everyone's minds.

When Is The Right Time To Get Political?
WHAT I'M WEARING: skirt: a new day | turleneck: target (similar found here)| booties: target (similar found here)

It's a sort of a conundrum, wanting to be aware of what's going on in the world without always talking about it & thinking about it. Wanting to be 'situationally appropriate' & sometimes biting tongues while still wanting to make sure those around you are educated. Literally sitting on your hands so you don't go & comment on aunt sally's anti-human rights facebook status.

Maybe Thanksgiving dinner isn't the best time to get into a political debate, but when is? Is there a right or wrong time to stand up for your beliefs? I don't know if it's fair to expect anyone to stay quiet at this point, even those we'd rather stayed quiet. There's never going to be a good time to bring up the state of the world, so we may as well do it when we know people are listening. Save the social media rants for a topic like your weekly shows, & leave the political talk to real life, real time, when you're pretty sure no one will throw hands. (or whatever the kids say)

Of course, nothing will be solved if all we do is fight & complain. Why not do something productive? Donate to a cause you believe in, vote in the midterm elections... we should do our best to walk the walk if we're gonna talk the talk.

Now, onto the skirt.

Leopard Tulle Skirt
The Leopard Tulle Skirt

I used to be BIG on leopard print back in the cheetah girls days. (I'm not ashamed of where I came from) I specifically remember a glittery denim skirt that I'm 98% sure was from justice that my mom sewed leopard fabric onto the bottom of, & I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever owned.

As I got older, my love of the animal print slowly turned into disdain, suddenly never wanting to own another leopard ~anything~. But then, suddenly, things changed again & my heart softened a bit as we've seen animal prints coming back into trend lately. I still feel that less is more when it comes to them & you shouldn't be out rocking head-to-toe leopard, but a little tulle never hurt anyone.

Definitely pair this with something simple, like a plain top & some booties, as the skirt is the star of the show.

xo,
kae
