Black Friday Shopping Tips From An Ex-Retail Employee

I spent four Christmases (like the Reese Witherspoon movie) in retail, and I’ve been a Black Friday shopper as well, so I’ve seen firsthand the do’s and dont’s of the day.

If you’ve ever been overwhelmed by the Black Friday madness, let this be your guide:

First Things First, Do Your Research
A lot of stores will put out their Black Friday ads or emails about a week (sometimes even more) beforehand, for this reason. They want you to pick ~them~ over competition, but take advantage of this and do your research.

Look at the stores you usually frequent, as well as others that might have good deals. Make a plan of action and be realistic on things that you'll actually buy.

Wait Until Friday
Many retailers open at 4 or 5 on thanksgiving day, and while that’s ~the demand~ it’s really unfair for employees to be taken away from their celebrations in order to work. (to risk sounding like a bitter old lady) If less people actually go out and shop on Thursday, the demand for it will be lower.

SO, spend Thursday with your loved ones (or whatever you do) and save the big spending day for Friday.

Focus On The Big Sales
The amount of sales that happen can be a tad overwhelming if you don’t know which way is up, and a lot of the smaller things aren’t necessarily worth what they make it out to be.

Sure, you can get great sales at forever 21 or asos, but when it comes to department stores focus on the big ticket things, whether you’re gifting or getting it for yourself. The best sales are normally on the bigger things. Keep that in mind when making your plan!

These are just a few of the ways you can conquer ~the big sale~. Good luck, and come back next Friday for all my sale picks!
